Moaz al-Khatib: ex-imam charged with uniting Syria's opposition

معاذ الخطيب : الإمام سابقا مكلف بتوحيد المعارضة السورية

When the Syria donors' conference begins on Friday in London, all eyes will turn to Moaz al-Khatib, the new leader of Syria's opposition. A religious moderate, with impeccable revolutionary credentials, and a geologist as well, the west will be looking to see whether Khatib is a man they can do business with.

Khatib was elected on Sunday in Doha as the head of Syria's new opposition coalition, emerging from negotiations many had predicted were doomed to failure

If Assad goes, Hezbollah will be alone in the Levant – much to the delight of Israel

إذا ذهب الأسد ، سيبقى حزب الله وحيدا في بلاد الشام – الأمر الذي يعود بالفائدة على إسرائيل

Hezbollah was once the Lebanese “resistance”, the tough, courageous, self-sacrificing guerrilla army which drove Israel’s occupation soldiers out of Lebanon 12 years ago.

Today, it looks more like yet another Arab “security” institution – or insecurity institution – as it flies drones over Israel and continues to support, to the increasing condemnation of many Lebanese, the Syrian regime of President Bashar al-Assad.

Nato 'will defend Turkey' from Syria attacks

حلف شمال الاطلسي "سيتم الدفاع عن تركيا" من هجمات سوريا

Turkey is becoming increasingly concerned about security along its border with Syria, in an area of the southeast where Ankara is also fighting an emboldened Kurdish insurgency.

"Nato as an organisation will do what it takes to protect and defend Turkey, our ally. We have all plans in place to make sure that we can protect and defend Turkey and hopefully that way also deter so that attacks on Turkey will not take place," Rasmussen said.

Syrian Jet Bombs Area Near Turkish Border

طائرة سورية تحمل قنابل في منطقة قرب الحدود التركية

ISTANBUL—Turkey said Monday that a Syrian war plane had bombed a rebel-held town just meters from the border, shattering windows in a nearby Turkish town and sending scores of Syrian refugees fleeing across the neighbors' shared frontier.

Along Turkey's border, the Syrian jet struck rebel positions in the Syrian town of Ras al-Ain, which fell to rebels on Thursday during an advance into the war-torn nation's mixed Arab and Kurdish northeast. At least four Syrians were killed and 20 were wounded in the strike, Turkey's state news agency reported.
