Turkey sends jets to border in response to presence of Syrian helicopter

Turkey has scrambled fighter jets to its border with Syria for the first time since warning its southern neighbour that fast escalating tensions between the two former allies could lead to war.

Officials in Ankara said on Friday the jets were deployed in response to the presence of a Syrian helicopter firing near the town of Azmarin, about 8km from Turkey's south-west border. The town has seen intense fighting between regime forces and rebels since Monday.

The British pals who died waging holy war in Syria

الزملاء البريطان هم من قتلو وجعلوا الجهاد مقدس في سوريا

On a cold night in March, two British men died in a hail of bullets on a Syrian mountainside.

In the days after their deaths Nassim Terreri, 25, and Walid Blidi, 26, were denounced as foreign terrorists by the Syrian Government and lauded as courageous freelance journalists in the Western press. Those who knew them in their final months say that they were both and neither.

The helicopter gunship, barely visible in the dawn haze, performed large circles above the Syrian border village of Jusiyah , seemingly confident that it faced no threat from the rebel Free Syrian Army (FSA) fighters below.

As the Mi-24 flew over the village again, a powerful blast among the buildings sent up a cloud of black smoke and a shockwave that thumped across the border with Lebanon and over the flat fields and orchards to the south.

Russia Says Syria Jet Held Radar Gear

روسيا تقول : الطائرة السورية المقبوض عليها تحمل معدات للرادرات.

ISTANBUL — Russia said the Syrian plane forced to land in Turkey was legally carrying radar parts in the latest salvo of a deepening diplomatic row between the countries, as Turkey scrambled two fighter jets to the Syrian border for the first time since July.

Adding to Turkey 's frustrations with the simmering conflict along its Syrian border, Russia contradicted Ankara 's claims that the Syrian A320 airliner that was forced to land in Ankara Wednesday was carrying weapons.
