 WASHINGTON - Armed groups in Syria have an estimated several hundred portable anti-aircraft missiles that could easily be diverted to extremists and used to destroy low-flying commercial planes, according to a new report by a respected international research group. It cites the risk that the missiles could be smuggled out of Syria by terrorists.

BEIRUT –  A Syrian opposition group says Lebanese Hezbollah fighters have killed a senior member of the Islamic State group.The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Tuesday that the man known as Abu Abdullah al-Iraqi was killed by a bomb planted in his car in the rugged Qalamoun region along the border with Lebanon.

FAA bans US flights over Syria

إدارة الطيران الفدرالية تمنع الطائرات الأميركية من التحليق فوق سورية 

FAA has issued a new notice to airmen (NOTAM) restricting US air carriers from flying in the Damascus Flight Information Region, which includes all of Syria. FAA cited the “ongoing armed conflict and volatile security environment in Syria,” which “poses a serious potential threat to civil aviation.”
